Antony Walker
With a repertoire of over 200 works from lyric opera, oratorio, choral and symphonic repertoire to his credit, Australian-born conductor Antony Walker is well-suited to the role of Music Director at Pittsburgh Opera and Artistic Director at Washington Concert Opera, positions he continues throughout the 2018/19 season. He has led performances at The Metropolitan Opera, Canadian Opera, English National Opera, Opera Australia, Santa Fe Opera, Welsh National Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Maggio Musicale di Firenze, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of San Francisco Opera to name a few. Antony is also Music Director at Washington Concert Opera, for whom he conducts two titles per year.
“The orchestra were on excellent form under the baton of Antony Walker. Noticeable form the start was their responsiveness and lively pace. The whole did not drag for an instant and the long first act (90 minutes) did not feel so at all. The playing thrillingly mirrored the violent loves and violent ends of the plot. All of these good things went with a production which was unashamedly fabulous.”
Bachtrack, Hilary Stroh, 28 April 2019
“Antony Walker stood before the chamber ensemble at the side of the stage and conducted effectively in an idiom far removed from the bel canto bounce that Washington Concert audiences have seen him do so often.”
Anne Midgette, The Washington Post, 11 February 2019
