We are thrilled to share the exciting news that our exceptional dramatic soprano, Åsa Jäger, is nominated for the prestigious Opera Award 2024 by Tidskriften Opera Magazine. This nomination is a testament to Åsa’s extraordinary talent and her significant contributions to the world of opera during the 2023/24 season.

 

Åsa Jäger is renowned for her powerful voice and captivating stage presence. A graduate with honors from the University College of Opera in Stockholm, Åsa has received numerous accolades, including scholarships from the Royal Academy of Music and the prestigious Bayreuth scholarships from the Swedish and Danish Wagner Societies.

Recent Achievements

Åsa’s recent performances have garnered critical acclaim. Her role debut as Brünnhilde in Die Walküre at Landestheater Coburg was celebrated for its clarity, passion, and depth. The renowned classical music journalist Alex Ross even included her in his 2022 short list of notable performances for The New Yorker. Åsa’s continued portrayal of Brünnhilde in Siegfried further solidified her reputation as a leading dramatic soprano.

Upcoming Engagements

Looking ahead,  Åsa joins Kent Nagano and Concerto Koeln in an innovative project exploring the historically informed approach to Wagner’s Ring, where she takes on the role of Brünnhilde in Die Walküre 2024. The next performance will be August 21, 2024.

Deborah Sanders has worked in the international world of performing arts for over 30 years. Starting in New Zealand where she was born, she worked her way through all the backstage disciplines—lighting, sound, props and stage mechanics—experience that culminated in the role of Production and Lighting Manager on The Rocky Horror Show with international artists which toured NZ for six months. She became Acting Manager of Wellington’s State Opera House during an ownership transition when the venue hosted some of the biggest names in global entertainment.
