Åsa Jäger: Celebrating 2024 Operapriset Award by Tidskriften OPERA
Arbour Artists is proud to honor dramatic soprano Åsa Jäger, who has been awarded the 2024 Operapriset by Tidskriften Opera Magazine. Her captivating portrayal of Senta in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Göteborg Opera won her this prestigious prize, voted for by the readers of Sweden’s leading opera publication.
A Voice of Power and Emotion
Jäger’s performance as Senta left an indelible mark, with her powerful vocal delivery and profound dramatic interpretation. Tidskriften OPERA’s critic Sören Tranberg lauded her Swedish debut, praising that her voice “pierces through the orchestra like a welding flame.” It’s a breakthrough that heralds the arrival of a major new talent on the Swedish operatic stage.
Trained at Stockholm’s University College of Opera, Åsa Jäger has since embarked on an impressive international career. A recent highlight includes performing Brünnhilde in Die Walküre with conductor Kent Nagano across Hamburg, Dresden, and the Lucerne Festival. With future roles in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung also lined up, Jäger’s rising star continues to shine brightly.
An Honoured Tradition
The Operapriset, established in 1986 and now in its 34th year, includes a striking statuette designed by goldsmith Sigurd Persson and a prize of 25,000 SEK, sponsored by the Kjell and Märta Beijer Foundation. Åsa joins the ranks of past winners like Nina Stemme and Katarina Dalayman, making this a fitting recognition of her vocal and interpretative prowess.
The award will be presented on December 1st on the grand stage of the Göteborg Opera, where Åsa Jäger will once again enchant the audience with her artistry. With upcoming performances of Senta in Coburg, Germany — the very role that first garnered her international acclaim — Jäger’s future promises continued triumphs and unforgettable performances for opera lovers around the globe.
